Mr. Kostis Dolapsis-Krassanakis was born in Heraklion,Crete.
From the mid '60s to mid '70 s he was studing in Italy and Spain,a period dedicated also to travel through Europe,Asia,Africa and the Middle East.
He was acquainted with renowned artists in architecture and Applied Arts.For example,in Italy Kostis met Scarpa,Licatta,Manzu,Levi,De Felice,Guttuso,Benetton a.o.In Spain he met Dali,Miro and Victor D'ors.
In 1967 he was introduced to Picasso, Kandylis, Provelegios, Xenakis and, a little later he met sculptor-painter Kostas Andreou who influenced Kosti's architectural orientation and became his best friend.Kostis experimented with metals and found innumerable ways to images of superlative art forms, which earned him international recognition.
In Italy Kostis Dolapsis-Krassanakis was prized for his systematic research in metals and the comprehensivenes of his synthetic choices.Leading architects and artists have eulogized his work.Following a collective exhibition at the School of Architectural in Naples and an Individual Exhibition in Venice, Kostis work was commended by critics and experts and spread his reputation across Europe.
Other exhibitions equally succesful,were in Palermo(Sicily) and Como (N.Italy), as well as at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Malta,and also in Hong Kong.-
The work of Kostis Dolapsis-Krassanakis represents a unique example in Metal Art.
He never fails to mention that he is the keeper of the Minoan art of processing metals.
He claims to have established an intimate relationship with his ancient ancestors he is in perpetual communion with them when contemplating forms and ways to harness fire to produce a range of chromatic variations on metal , which emulate the Hubble Space Telescop e colour snapshots of stars in their moment of birth.
During the last few years Kostis is assisted by his sons,Pavlis and Michalis,who are promising artists and keen to make their contribution to Metal Art and Sculpture.
For the last 20 years Kostis draws his inspiration from the history of Crete.
His blood line straddles between the historical village of Sfakia (the Psaron family) and the Lasithi region, but he has a special place in his heart for the ''Big Castle" (Modern Heraklion), his birthplace.
Kostis believes that evry exhibition of his Metal Artworks and Sculptorss provide food for thought for modern and future researches and artists in metal work.
